We are delighted to announce that Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council has granted planning permission on land north of Clapgate, Bredbury Green.
The site will host our Clapgate renewable energy platform featuring a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with an installed capacity of 40 MW, strengthening the security of energy supply in the North West of England and contributing to delivering the UK’s Net Zero target.
This successful submission is the result of our commitment to transparent, close collaboration with local communities and stakeholders, as well as the drive to deliver tailored excellence.
Planning
Throughout the planning phase, we and our expert advisors worked tirelessly to ensure the development is safe, high quality, and benefits both the community and the environment. This process included consultations with local communities and technical authorities addressing key aspects such as flood risk, highways, landscape, ecology, environmental health, and archaeology.
Site characteristics
In partnership with Pegasus Group and Biodiverse Consulting, we carefully designed Clapgate to respect the area’s Green Belt and increase the local biodiversity by 36%.
The site will integrate advanced battery technology, acoustic barrier solutions, and a bespoke landscaping plan to enhance the natural environment, ensuring a harmonious balance between technology, environmental care, and community respect.
Next steps
With our selected partners, we will lead the project’s construction phase, commencing the work on the procurement, EPC contracting, and building processes next year.
A further step within our current project pipeline
“Clapgate BESS will play a key role in providing grid balancing services and a more resilient electricity network in the North West. It also marks another important milestone in executing our pipeline of BESS, wind and solar projects across the UK and Italy. We take pride in contributing to the UK’s energy transition with another carefully crafted development that will stand the test of time whilst respecting the landscape and community it sits in,” said Christopher Binns, Planning Director, Queequeg Renewables.
“Our current pipeline of 6.6 GW demonstrates our ambition to lead in the renewable energy sector. Through our valuable partnerships with blue-chip companies, we’re actively transforming renewable opportunities into reality across our current markets. This progress, combined with our team’s exceptional talent and dedication, exemplified by projects like Clapgate, fuels our ambition to expand geographically over the next five years,” said Gabriella Palla, President of Queequeg Renewables.
Sincerely,
Queequeg Renewables
